Smart Golden Phoenix
A brand new way to raise chickens
Recently in Zhejiang, there have been chickens that have sold for RMB 1080 ($A165) each. The chicken farmer, Yang Sizhong, turns out to be the ex-manager of a listed company.
Mr Yang is 45 years old and started to raise chickens three years ago. He has provided his chickens with Chinese herbs and Mozart’s classical music. The chickens he raises are truly remarkable – they can fly more than 180 metres.
Mr Yang obtained an MNA from a university in Hong Kong. He was a civil servant and then a high level manager in a listed company. After more than 10 years in his field, he gave up his high paying job three years ago to raise the chickens he loves. Now, his chickens sell for an average of RMB 900 ($A140) each.
Mr Yang said: “I have always liked chickens. I feel that they are not only beautiful, but also very intelligent animals.”
His chicken farm is located at the base of a hill near Yuyao City, 40km west of Ningbo in Zhejiang Province. The chickens are smaller in size than those in the general market, but they are vibrant and love to fight. When someone gets close to them, they can fly away. Mr Yang has put speakers outside the farm door and plays Mozart’s music all day long. His chickens are fed only once a day and they have to find food around the hill to supplement their diet. He explained that this way, they stay more robust and wild.
He names his chickens “Smart Golden Phoenix” and feeds them with secret herbs. He added: “After fermentation, my chicken feed is also good for human consumption. There are two varieties of chickens within the Smart Golden Phoenix, namely, the selenium-rich chickens and the life-preserving chickens.” His chicken feed consists of corn flour, bran, soybean meal, red ginseng, codonopsis, angelica and some secret herbs.
Mr Yang said that the selenium-rich chickens are fed with plants that have high selenium content, such as okra and garlic, so that the selenium will accumulate in the chicken. The life-preserving chickens are fed additional cistanche, cynomorium and other herbs to enhance testosterone levels to achieve the effect of life preservation and potency.
A test report from the Ningbo Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Technology Centre indicates that his chickens are superior in selenium levels compared to the well-known Hunan chickens, Lotus Phoenix. Scientifically proven, selenium can enhance resistance to cancer and improve the body’s immunity.
Many people are very interested in Mr Yang’s chickens and cannot wait to taste a Smart Golden Phoenix.
