"Each piece was amazing."

Shen Yun Performing Arts performed at the Lincoln Center in New York City from January 11th through the 15th. A Kanzhongguo reporter recently interviewed some of the audience members.

It was the first time Patricia and Robert came to see Shen Yun. “We’ve enjoyed the show very much. It is simply beautiful choreography, and I especially enjoyed the music. I enjoyed it very much, the show is very colorful, very entertaining.”

The Lotus Leaves dance was Patricia's favorite. Robert said he enjoyed all of it equally.

Tom and Linda were interviewed during the intermission. Tom commented, “It is beautiful, it's really stunning, it is a beautiful experience, and I’m looking forward to seeing the 2nd half. I liked the Monkey King piece. It was very clever with good dancing. I love the flow of the dance, very elegant, very stylish, it is a beautiful show.

Linda said, “I was in China a year ago. I saw many shows there, and I wanted to share the experience with Tom, but the shows in China are nothing like what I have seen today. Shen Yun is more of a ballet expressing the history of the country. When I was in Shanghai and Beijing the shows there were just for entertainment. The costumes here are very different, and I think it achieves what I believe it sets out to do, which is to tell stories in the form of dance. Frankly I prefer the men dancing, I like that style.”

At the end of the performance another woman named Patricia, a retired dancer who specialized in Italian dances, was interviewed. She attended the show with a friend.

When asked how she would compare this performance to others that she has seen, she said with tears in her eyes, “It’s hard to say how it compares, but I thought it was so brilliantly colorful with very incredibly synchronized dancing. My friend and I were talking about the multiple use of props as extensions of the arm such as the baskets, the bows, the flowers, the swords and so on. The variety is so incredible to the eye. The expression of the dances come through the movement so much, the arms especially, and the facial expressions, it is just amazing to watch that. The uniformity, the rhythm, the lines of the dancers and how they maintain that, all of them all through intricate changes of rhythm and steps, it's marvelous."

“It is hard to say which piece was my favorite. Let me glance at the names again in the program. The Sleeves of Silk, The Charm of the Monkey King, and The Lotus Leaves were my favorites. The narrative aspects of all the stories is just marvelous, the snow flakes welcoming spring, that just seemed so charming. The way the different moods of nature were used to synchronize with all the little settings of each piece was amazing.”
