New York – Opening Night with a Full House
New York welcomed the return of Shen Yun to the Lincoln Centre with open arms. The opening show on Wednesday January 11 was a full house; two more weekend shows have also been sold out. Despite the economy and the cold weather, people gathered at the David H. Koch Theatre to witness a whole new set of programs that Shen Yun is presenting for the 2012 tour.
It was the first time that Ms Lazella Lexar, a retired retail executive, had attended Shen Yun.
“Extraordinary! And the colours are just magnificent. I was just overwhelmed by the beauty of it, not knowing what to expect. I was overwhelmed, really lovely.”
Reporter: Which program was your favourite?
“That would be really difficult for me to say; the girls with the silk sleeves, that was magnificent, that would probably be my favourite.”
Also first time attendees to Shen Yun were Barbara Celton, a research psychologist, and advertising agency executive Jeffery Johnson.
Barbara: “It was Amazing! The variety of movements, the colours, the display, the stories that were novel, enchanting, intriguing.”
Reporter: Which program was your favourite?
Barbara: “ Hmm, the favourite, oh dear, maybe it was the martial arts (Martial Arts Training Ground), very energetic.”
Jeff: “My favourite one? I loved the ones we would call fairy tales, like the Monkey King, and those stories were just great. Although I must admit the last Soprano was terrific, that was a different part of the event tonight, but she was absolutely wonderful.”
Based in New York, Shen Yun Performing Arts was established in 2006 with the mission of reviving 5000 years of divinely inspired Chinese culture. There are three touring company that travel around the world each year with brand new programs, unveiling to audiences a piece of authentic traditional Chinese culture.
